Dark Tales

The Weatherspoons are a ukulele and banjo-plucking and song singing off-shoot of the Serious Ukulele Ensemble and Big Muffin Serious Band. Dark Tales album, from 2012, is one which successfully delves into the darker themes and deathly ballads usually eschewed by the ukulele fraternity. It is tastefully arranged and performed, with a minimum guaranteed 10% ukulele on each track (for those of you who like to keep track of your Daily Ukulele Intake). SMALL MERCIES
Completed in December 2016, Small Mercies was intended to be Volume 2 of the Ukulele Music for Grown Ups series, but by the time it was finished both Clem and Martha had decided they’d replace most of the ukulele parts with the comparatively more widely unpopular banjo. The result is a CD much like Dark Tales, in that it is devoid of any musical jokes but is a very listenable album of occasionally well known but mostly obscure songs and instrumentals, done with a tasteful, moody, country feel.

Cup on the Counter (L. Durrett)
